Tampa vs. Tampa Bay
Tampa Bay is a large natural harbor and estuary connected to the Gulf of Mexico on the west coast of Florida. The Tampa Bay Area, also known as Tampa Bay, includes a series of smaller bays and rivers surrounded by the larger cities of Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg, as well as numerous smaller cities and towns such as New Port Richey, Tarpon Springs, and Zephyrhills. The Tampa Bay area offers many attractions such as The Salvador Dali Museum (St. Petersburg), Tampa Bay Rays baseball (St. Petersburg), and some of the most beautiful white-sand beaches in the world (Fort Desoto Park, Anna Maria Island, Clearwater Beach). Tampa Bay is known for wonderful outdoor recreational activities (boating, fishing, concerts, festivals) and Tampa’s international airport offers convenient, accessible travel to all parts of the United States and the world.
The City of Tampa, settled in 1849 by Spanish, Italian, Cuban, and Eastern European Jewish immigrants, is located on the east side of Tampa Bay and is renown for its historic connection to Henry B. Plant’s railroad and the Ybor City cigar industry. The City of Tampa has a thriving business community, with visual and performing arts (Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa Museum of Art, Florida Orchestra), major sports franchises (Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Bay Lightning), and attractions (Busch Gardens, Adventure Island, Lowry Park Zoo, Florida Aquarium). Downtown Tampa, specifically, the Channel District, serves as an excellent location for the ChLA Conference. Please read below for an overview of the different areas near the conference hotel. |
